Math Programs

AMC10 Training Program

• The secondary education in STEM is quite weak in US, especially math. Getting A in math classes at school and 800 on SAT math is not sufficient for students who aspire to study STEM subjects in the future. This is because there are serious deficiencies in the math standards, textbooks, and teaching systems in American elementary and secondary schools. The AMC (American Mathematics Competitions) is a rigorous and systematic mathematical system that greatly helps in cultivating students' math skills. As a result, many top private universities include AMC scores as an option in their admission applications.

• AMC10 is suitable for 8th/9th-grade students and those in lower grades who have excellent AMC8 scores. The training involves simulated exams, problem-solving discussions, and instruction in number theory and probability, subjects not commonly taught in regular schools.

• Start in March 2024, every Sunday afternoon 2p. 

• The Math Program is student-led, with students serving as officers to foster leadership skills.

• The AMC10 training will be led by Vivian Lei, who has qualified for the AIME (American Invitational Mathematics Examination) twice at Saratoga High.

• Parents are highly welcome to volunteer and coordinate activities.

• Classes will be held at MindstreamX San Jose Downtown office: 28 N 1st St.

• Due to limited space, there are limited spots available. Please register promptly by contacting on WeChat at LWRetreat, or text 408-476-0455. Provide the student's name, grade, school, and current math subjects in school.

大学升学辅导  

美国大学申请竞争越来越激烈，尤其是亚裔极度内卷，最近热点新闻硅谷Gunn High的Stanley Zhong 成绩优异，在多项计算机竞赛获奖，又自己创建startup, 高中毕业直接被Google录取为软件工程师年薪27万，但被申请的18所大学中的16所大学拒绝，包括他申请的全部四所UC。Stanley的父亲强烈呼吁大学录取的透明度。

美国名校的大学申请看似一个黑匣子，究竟要录取什么样的学生呢？MindstreamX 继成功举办2022 Youth Leadership Retreat之后开设大学升学辅导以解开这个黑匣子之谜。MindstreamX 创始人Bryant Liu通过成功的升学规划和亮眼独特的课外活动包括领导力，科研竞赛STS获奖（有关禅修的人工智能科研）和社区服务等顺利被多所UC录取，2023年8月入学UC Berkeley。今年三名参加过Youth Leadership Retreat的高中生正在申请大学，三位学生都有出色的课外活动。

• 升学辅导课程内容包括：

  • 升学宝典 - 解密升学竞争机制和游戏规则

  • 选择合适的中学

  • 高中四年选课，提高学校成绩和标化成绩

  • 充分利用学生所在学校资源，和其他资源如社区大学等

  • 了解美国的大学和专业, 各种专业的就业

  • 发现和培养学生兴趣特长，打造有特色的升学形象，规划亮眼的课外活动以在激烈的升学竞争中脱颖而出

  • 育人：培养内驱力，时间管理能力，沟通力，领导力，同领心和爱心等诸多重要的软实力和情商

  • 选择适合申请的大学和专业

  • 撰写大学申请文书

  • 学长学姐们的成功经验分享

• 活动项目：根据学生的兴趣，组织和辅导以学生为主导的各种活动，调动学生的积极性并从中训练学生的领导力：

  • 学术活动：标化考试(SAT/ACT, AP), 各类竞赛等

  • 软实力和情商培养，领导力，创造力等

  • 社区服务义工，有机会获得总统义工奖

  • 音体美

  • 社交活动及party等

• 高中11和12年级升学冲刺规划, 高中9和10年级高中全盘规划

• 主讲老师是Youth Leadership Retreat的主讲老师

  • Jessica Huai曾任Apple Senior Engineering Manager, 有科研竞赛评委和辅导高中生做科研发表论文的经验，亲自辅导Bryant Liu等做全盘升学规划

  • Dr. Yikuan Lee是San Francisco State Univ Business School Professor, 有辅导高中生做科研发表论文的经验

• 英文授课，网上和现场并行

• 家长也需要参加课程学习，了解美国的教育体系和升学机制（和中国的非常不一样）才能更好地督促和帮助孩子。非常欢迎家长做义工。

• 课程免费， 接受捐款（公司donation match，volunteer match), 捐款用于Program费用和给穷困弱势群体的慈善

• 名额有限，优先慧灯禅修的弟子和高年级学生
